My work is focused at the intersection of structural geology and petrology, and in how the knowleadge on these fields can be improved through novel techniques. I am also interested in geological data mining and database management for adressing those issues relevant to modern societal needs. My PhD addresses the origin and evolution of the large quartz veins that crop out in the Eastern Pyrenees.

I am currently a Ramón y Cajal research fellow at the University of Barcelona. I graduated with a PhD in geology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2008. After that I worked at the universities of Tübingen (Germany) and Aberdeen (United Kingdom) as researcher and lecturer, respectively. My research interests mainly focus on sedimentary geology, the formation of tectonic structures as well as on fluid-rock interactions, integrating field studies with numerical simulations.

My research interests focus on fluids (basinal and magmatic) related to ore deposits. I am especially interested in the type of information that mineral textures can provide us. Techniques I am using include mapping, transmitted and reflected light microscopy, fluid inclusions microthermometry, major and trace element, and isotopes analyses.

Im am currently professor for structural geology at the Department of Geosciences of Tübingen University (Germany). After my PhD in Utrecht (NL), I was a postdoctoral researcher at Monash University, Melbourne (Australia), where I mainly worked on veins and fluid/melt flow, but where we also initiated the elle-project for the simulation of deformation (micro-) structures. I then moved to Mainz (Germany) to become assistant of Prof Cees Passchier and came to Tübingen in 2002. My research interests are deformation of rocks and ice, fluid flow and resulting structures, such as veins, as well as general structural geology and tectonics. Where possible I like to apply numerical simulations.

Currently Professor of Structural Geology at the Universitat de Barcelona. I began working in the Variscan and pre–Variscan basement rocks of the Pyrenees in 1978 (Degree dissertation) and 1984 (Phd. Thesis). I also worked on the Antactic Peninsula and on the Iberian Pyrite Belt, as well as on the Alpine structure of the Eastern Pyrenees. Now I am focussed on the pre-Variscan (Cadomian and Sardic) evolution of the Pyrenean basement rocks.
